Featuring soprano Sarah Moyer, historical trumpeter Christopher Belluscio, and pianist Sylvia Berry
This highly unusual program celebrates two 19th century virtuosos: trumpeter Thomas Harper Sr. and soprano Clara Novello. Harper was famous for playing the slide trumpet and Cornopean, and Novello was one of the most internationally acclaimed singers of her day. She and Harper (as well as Harper's son) often performed together, dazzling audiences with double cadenzas in works written for them, as well as favorites like "Let the Bright Seraphim." This concert will feature three historical instruments: Belluscio's English slide trumpet (Westminster, 1840), his Cornopean (London, 1850) and Berry's piano, a grand built by John Broadwood and Son in 1806. This concert is also being presented by Cornet Conspiracy, a group of historical brass instrument collectors that meets annually.
